Dr. Franz König, LL.M.

Dr Franz König, LLM, is both a partner in the Financial Lines department at the Cologne office and a specialist lawyer for insurance law who focuses in particular on advising and monitoring claims in the area of cyber and data risks. As an established cyber expert, Dr König offers clients comprehensive advice on insurance and liability issues in connection with cyber-attacks – in particular on insured losses and costs, business interruptions, reporting obligations as well as the defence against liability claims. He is also responsible for incident response management when it comes to cyber incidents and data breaches and coordinates the cooperation with IT forensic experts, communications experts and other specialised service providers. He also provides advice on IT law issues, in particular in the area of IT liability, recourse claims against IT service providers and data protection law. In addition, he also focuses on the interface between manager liability, D&O insurance and IT security requirements. It is in this context that he deals with complex liability and insurance law issues arising from the growing technical and organisational requirements for companies and managers.
